Ponnonam @ 50 observed with grandeur at CSIR-NIIST

konnivartha.com: Ponnonam @ 50, the Golden Jubilee edition of the annual Onam celebrations of CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST), was observed with grandeur on September 1–2, 2025. The two-day celebrations brought together employees, students, and their families, combining cultural vibrancy with institutional pride.

Anu Kumari, IAS, District Collector, Thiruvananthapuram, inaugurated the celebrations on September 1, 2025. In her address, she highlighted the relevance of sustainable living and collective responsibility towards the environment. Renowned playback singer Dr. B. Arundhathi graced the occasion as Guest of Honor.

 

On the second day, Shri. Chetan Prakash Jain, Joint Secretary & Financial Adviser, CSIR, attended as Chief Guest and appreciated CSIR-NIIST’s contributions in advanced materials, process technologies, food and agro-processing, and sustainability-focused innovations. Shri. Thomson Jose, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Thiruvananthapuram, was the Guest of Honor.Both days were presided over by Dr. C. Anandharamakrishnan, Director, CSIR-NIIST, who reflected on the institute’s five-decade journey and called Ponnonam a tradition that reinforces the community’s commitment to scientific excellence and societal relevance.he celebrations featured Vanchippattu, folk dances, a grand fashion show, a mega Thiruvathira, and other cultural performances, concluding with a traditional Onam Sadhya.
